On this day in 1932, FDR announced that he was running for President. We're used to seeing him in a wheelchair but in this 1920 photo (when he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy and in full health) you can see how tall he was. A year after the photo, he contracted polio (or perhaps, as it is thought now Guillain–Barré syndrome).
