Joseph Verniers traveled on the Empress of Ireland as 3rd class with his parents and five siblings. Empress of Ireland collided with a Norwegian liner in the middle of a fog causing the ship to sink in 14 minutes. 3rd class were trapped below the flooded decks. Joseph and his family perished and none of their bodies were found.
