  • Introduction

    I was told that my grandfather, E.L. Cascie, whom we all called "Poppa," was from Italy, and had a brother in Sicily. My grandmother said that her husband had been in the Navy and the merchant marines. I last saw him in the hospital, where he had been admitted for removal of a colon cancer. He was terrified of the hospital, and even though the surgery was a success, he passed away soon after. He and my grandmother lived on Lamberts Avenue, in Richmond, VA the entirety of the time I knew them - until they each died.
