the oldest of five children, was born in Nebraska in 1932 and raised in Oregon. She is survived by her husband William (Bill) Boak, her six children, her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, two of her brothers, and only sister. Working as a legal secretary for the County Courthouse in Mapleton, she met her husband of 60 years, William Neil Boak, in 1947. Their life together and family of six children began in Mapleton, Oregon in 1949, where the two oldest, Marijane and John were born. Then having made it through the many floods in Orick during the 50's and 60's where the next two children, Patti and Billy were born, they moved to Sunny Brae, where Kathleen and Colleen were born. Residing in Mckinleyville since 1964, in their life together, Bill and Bettie along with Ted & Edith Boak, Bill's mother and father, sustained and grew Boak Logging Company as a successful business where she managed the corporate bookkeeping simultaneously with the entire Boak household and the contents therein surrounding their six children. Regarded as the CEO, CFO, and "chief cook and bottle washer", she could balance the checkbook, press your uniform, make a prom dress, put dinner on, and chase down one of the boys with her only free hand all at the same time. She loved flowers and enjoyed a beautiful garden. She would spend hours and days working on her yard and was even more content to travel to a beautiful destination and relax and enjoy a scenic spot. From perfect health, Bettie suffered a sudden heart attack on Wednesday, March 21st, and incredibly survived one more day for her children and Bill before a second attack Thursday night when she passed. On her final day with her family, she was the impressively sharp, remarkably strong, beautiful woman that we all love, who kept it together for all of us, always. Services in her honor will be held at Christ the King Church in McKinleyville, California on Tuesday 27th at 11am, with remembrance and a celebration of life immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Christ the King Church in McKinleyville, St. Mary's School and Parish, or McKinleyville Senior Resource Center.
