My father Elmer J F Schwiesow was born of Carl and Anna (Specht) Schwiesow, lived in the Chatsworth and Hawarden, Iowa area until entering the U S Navy as a CB. Upon discharge he moved his family to Ponca, Nebraska in the mid-40’s. He built and operated Schwiesow Brothers Dodge and Plymouth in Ponca. In mid 1969’s he started the Automotive Mechanics division at Iowa Western College in Sioux City, Iowa then retired at age 64. He stayed in Ponca until his death in 1996z
Early Life & Education

It is not known exactly where my father Elmer attended school but it was probably in Chatsworth, Iowa, a country school. He left school after 6th grade to work in his father’s shop livery stable/garage.
Religious Beliefs

My father was not particularly religious, but attended Lutheran Church services Easter, Christmas and for weddings and funerals.
Military Service

My father Elmer served in the U S Navy during WWII as a Construction Battalion Machinist Mate on Okinawa, Japan.
Professional Career

My father Elmer was an all-star mechanic, who also welded. He worked on cars, trucks of all sorts, tractors, anything with an engine. On one evaluation, he was the #1 mechanic in Iowa and in the top 6 in the United States.
