Obituary

Frederick Jay traveled on the Empress of Ireland with his mother and siblings as 3rd class. The family was traveling to England to visit a relative. Empress of Ireland collided with a Norwegian liner at Saint Lawrence river at 2:00 AM and sank in only 14 minutes in the middle of a fog. Most 3rd class passengers were trapped below the flooded decks during the collision. Frederick perished in the sinking with his mother and 4 siblings. None of their bodies were found.
