John Samonek, 84, of Zephyrhills, died Thursday, August 12th, 2010, at Gulf Regional Hospice in Zephyrhills. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

John was born March 17, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Stanley Aloise and Frances Elizabeth (Wojcik) Samonek and was a graduate of Manchester High School at age 16.

On June 1, 1959, he married Donna Marie Danhausen in Fenton, Michigan. They lived in Michigan for several years before moving to Florida in 1986.

John served with pride as a Michigan State Trooper for 25 years, seeing duty in Flint, Houghton, Blissfield, and Erie City Posts before retiring in 1973 as a Sergeant.

He was a lifelong member of the Manchester Masonic Lodge, a Circuit Court of Monroe County Magistrate, and a millwright. He enjoyed golf, metal fabricating, and a variety of projects in his workshop where he enjoyed working with his hands.

John will be missed by: his beloved wife of 51 years, Donna Marie Samonek of Zephyrhills; two sisters, Sonia Volgyi of Westland, Michigan and Josephine Meriwether of Claire, Michigan; two sons, Thomas Lee Samonek (and his wife Kimberly) and Charles Floyd Samonek of Zephyrhills; 5 grandchildren (and their spouses): Ron, Tom, Tim, Fawn, and Christopher; 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers: Joseph, Walter, Stanley (Leo and Vincent who died in infancy); 5 sisters: Stephanie, Mary, Helen, Estelle, Margaret; and his precious daughter, Judy Kay Story.

Friends may call from 4-6 p.m., Monday, August 16, 2010 at the Hodges Family Funeral Home on Highway 54 West in Zephyrhills. Services celebrating the life of John will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Belcher officiating. Burial will be held at the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery in Dade City.
