Lois Naomi Shaffer was born to Oliver Paul shaffer (1901 - 1988) and Mary Orga Mowrey. She had a brother, Harry P. Shaffer, and a sister, Dorothy A. Shaffer. She had another brother, Franklin, who died in infancy. Lois Shaffer married Ivan Arthur McAninch in January of 1957 in Pennsylvania.
