Brittany Jones Freebird was played at his memorial service. There was a two day viewing at a separate funeral home for the friends and family who wanted to say goodbye. Michael was then cremated on April 1st, 2004. His final service was a few days later. His father Michael J Fontana was able to fly up to Washington to help his two daughters and their mother make arrangements for Michael's belongings and services. So many people attended his service that everyone had to be relocated into a bigger auditorium. Many people spoke of Michael's kind heart and love for his two daughters, family, and friends.
