Obituary Add details
Orvokki Maki traveled on the Empress of Ireland with her mother as 3rd class. The two were traveling to Finland to visit a relative. The ship collided with a Norwegian liner in the middle of a fog at 2:00 AM at Saint Lawrence river and sank in only 14 minutes. Most 3rd class passengers were trapped below the flooded decks during the collision. Orvokki and her mother perished. None of their bodies were recovered.
