    In an excerpt from a book named "United Daughters of the Confederacy", page 100, four paragraphs were submitted by Elizabeth Haney Bell (Silas' Great Grandaughter). She states that Silas joined the Confederate States Army as a private Feb. 20, 1863. He was assigned to Co. A, 2nd Btry., Harris MS State Cav. under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Silas was captured May 5, 1863 and quickly escaped to return back to finish the war, being discharged in GA.
