Assunta Turano of Brick, Ocean County, NJ was born on September 28, 1923 to Generoso Sarnelli and Filomena Sarnelli. She had siblings Carmela Dorr, Carlo Sarnelli, Aldo Sarnella, and Felice "Phil" Sarnella. She was the mother of Michael Zuppa. Assunta Turano died at age 80 years old on June 12, 2004.

  • Introduction

    Assunta Turano was born Assunta Sarnelli in Brooklyn, New York in 1923. She was the second born to Neapolitan Italian immigrants Generoso and Filomena (nee Bifolco) Sarnelli. She lived in Italy from 1932 to 1936 as a child in the town where her parents were born in Sarno (Salerno) at the foot of the Mt. Vusuvius volcano.She was one of 5 children, i.e. Carmela, Assunta, Carlo, Felice and Aldo (all deceased). She had 2 children; Patricia Delgaldo (deceased) and Nicholas Delgaldo. She settled in Staten Island in the early 1960's with her first husband Carmine and 2 children. She had 2 grand daughters and later settled in New Jersey in the 1990's and passed away at age 80 in Brick,New Jersey.

Family Home Of Assunta Delgaldo-1960's
Assunta (Sue) Delgaldo moved to Staten Island in 1962,before the VN Bridge opened in 1964 and settled on Carreau Avenue in the New Springville section in this brand-new home. In those days,the island was sparsely developed and New Springville had farms and plenty of open fields and forest-land. She settled into their new home with her husband, Carmine (deceased), and two children; daughter, Patricia (deceased) and son, Nicholas (Nicola).

Sarnelli Family Home in 1943 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
1930 60th Street in Bensonhurst, (Brooklyn) N.Y. It was a big house,purchased near the end of World War-2 by Generoso and Filomena Sarnelli. All five children of the Italian immigrant family lived in this home at one time or another from the 1940's, 50's and through the 1960's. In those days, families were closer and stayed close-by and eventually raised their own families in the same homes and neighborhoods.
