Clement Uhl started Toledo Metal Furniture company in 1903 with his brothers Philip and Joe Uhl. Their first customer was the Hoffman Ice cream and candy store in Toledo , Ohio. Clement designed and engineered their product line. He had numerous furniture patents through out his career.He even designed a posterpeic chair back in the 1920's. Toledo Metal Furniture manufactured office and school furniture for sixty years. One of their famous customers was Thomas Edison who had a table built for his dictaphone. Today, antique dealers buy and sell Uhl furniture all over the country.The furniture was so well built that people are still using it today.
