(copied from newspaper clipping - November 11, 1946) A collision of five automobiles and a truck early Monday evening on the rain-soaked Albany Post road a few hundred yards south of the Staatsburg cut-off, injured nine persons. A 1935 coach driven by Mr. Ernst Karlson, Rhinebeck was going north - it became involved in a head-on collision with a car driven by Mr. Lewis, Linden, NJ. Mr. Lewis was in collision with a 1 1/2 ton truck driven by Lloyd Rivenburgh, Clermont which left the highway and hit a guard rail. A southbound car driven by Mr. Quin, Carteret, NJ later became involved in a collision with the Lewis coup and another northbound car driven by Richard Hargrave, White Plains collided with the rear of the Quin coupe. Mr. Triebel had been called to the scene with 2 tow trucks to assist in clearing the damaged vehicles from the highway. Troopers said he was standing on the highway directing the movement of the tow trucks when he was struck by a car driven by Allen Taylor, 46, 30 Locust Hill Av., Yonkers. Mr. Taylor, troopers said, told them that visibility was poor and the headlights of one of the tow trucks prevented him from seeing Mr. Triebel on the highway. The front of his car struck the garage owner, and hurled him several feet. (I was told that he only got a broken leg from this accident and his family was expecting him to come home from the hospital soon when a blood clot got into his heart or lung and suddenly he was gone.) =================== (copied from newspaper clipping - November, 1946) Franklin Triebel, 44, local garageman, succumbed suddenly Monday morning, November 25th at Vassar hospital, Poughkeepsie, where he had been confined since Monday, November 11th with a compound fracture of the leg when struck by a car on the Albany Post Road. Funeral services will be conducted at the Triebel home, North Broadway, Friday afternoon, Nov. 29th at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Ottis Linger, pastor of the Red Hook Methodist church , of which Mr. Triebel was a member, will officiate and interment will take place in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Mr. Triebel was injured while directing the removal of cars that had been involved in a series of accidents near Staatsburg. He was struck by a car driven by Allen J. Taylor, Yonkers. He was born in Pleasant Valley, son of William Frederick and the late Grace Fero Triebel. Mr. Triebel, a familiar figure to everyone, had a deep love for home, family and church and he will be greatly missed in the community. He had lived here 30 years and had operated Triebel's Garage & Machine Shop following his father's retirement many years ago. Mr. Triebel was a member of the Official Board of the Methodist Church, Christian Lodge No. 375, I.O.O.F., and Shiloh Encampment No. 68; Rock City Grange and the Red Hook Fire Co. (handwritten note adds "& Masons") Surviving in addition to his father, are his wife Dorothy Simmons Triebel, son Donald, three sons Donald, LeRoy and Charles; two daughters Audrey and Elma; a sister Mrs. James Rifenburg - all of Red Hook, and aunt Mrs. Mabel Lanagan, Schenectady, a number of nieces and nephews and several cousins. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Burnette & Rockefeller.
