Man in photo is unknown, but the photographer was Alford Thomas.

Alford Thomas was born about 1865 in England, and immigrated to America in 1882, eventually settling in Central City, Gilpin Co., Colorado. He was a photographer there, and by 1910 was widowed with a son, Arnold M. Thomas. Central City was known for its gold mining and was a rather large city at the time Alford was working there.
