John Cornelius Butler
John Butler and Mary Agnes Lerg married in a catholic service by a Father Duval on August 4, 1917 in the Church of the Sacred Heart in Nogales, Santa Cruz County, Arizona. They had four children. He was an Agent for Standard Oil. He subsequently became Town Clerk for the Municipal Light, Water, Streets, Sewers, etc. while living at 437 West Bill Williams Avenue (or West Route 66) in Williams, Coconino County, Arizona. They sold this property on January 1, 1962 and moved to 105 East Sherman Avenue in Williams. He passed away on December 17, 1965. In her diary, my mother described her impression of her father, John Butler: “My father was a very quiet, kind, steady man. When I was little, I loved to crawl up on his legs while he was sitting down reading the paper. He would playfully switch positions to knock me off. We never really talked together; I just knew he would always be able to take care of whatever happened. He was my security. He smoked a pipe, and the aroma of the tobacco was comforting to me. I really savored the times I could see a twinkle in his Irish eyes. I am pleased when people say that I'm like my father.”
