Charles Francis Ward

Charles Francis was an Engineer who worked for the Phosphate company in Geelong and overseas. He was married to the love of his life Eulalie Doris, who died (aged 29) giving birth to their daughter Robin Eulalie. Charles was a great bushman who often took Robin camping in the Otways, setting up a tent, and cooking on a camp fire. One sunny day a snake came too close to Robin and he grabbed it by the tail, cracking it like a whip to kill it instantly. Charles was a heavy pipe smoker, and died at work of a heart attack aged 49. Although Robin (now almost 90) only had him in her life until his death when she was 12, has very fond memories of the times they shared.
