Dr. Linda Hazzard 1900
The infamous Dr. Hazzard. Linda Hazzard was born in 1867 in Carver County, Minnesota and died from starvation in 1938. I believe that this photo might have been taken in Olalla Washington where she had a few different 'hospitals'.

Linda was not an actual doctor which we would think of today. She fell through a loop-hole which allowed for 'alternative medicine' practitioners to receive certain medicinal titles. "Dr." Hazzard was one of the first proponents of 'self-starvation'. She enticed clients to join her at one of her homes where she would starve them with a 'cleansing' diet of a few cups of broth each day for months upon end until they all starved to death. Of course she made sure that her clients handed over power of attorney and all of their possessions before they died.

Rumor has it that Dr. Hazzard was incredibly charismatic or charming to a degree that no matter what logic would tell you, most people would always listen to what she had to say.
Date & Place: in Olalla, Washington USA

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
