Duane A Lewellen
He was licensed to the ministry at Uniontown Church of the Brethren. He married the former Sara V. May on his 19th birthday in 1957. He spent some time working for Gray's Pharmacy and as a photographer. While working as a photographer for WBOY-TV, Clarksburg WV he interviewed and photographed John F. Kennedy in 1960. He pastored the Accident,MD Bear Creek Church of the Brethren 1963-65. He was ordained on January 1,1967 at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren, VA he was the pastor there from 1965-67. He was pastor of the Windber PA Church of the Brethren from 1967-71. He was also a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He suffered a major stroke at the age of 32 and miraculously recovered. From 1971-1978 he pastored both the Farmington-Bethel and Canaan Churches of the Brethren in Farmington and Gibbon Glade PA and was also a volunteer firefighter and one of the first paramedics in the Markleysburg area. From 1978-1986 he was pastor of the Morrellville Church of the Brethren and was Vice-President of the Greater Johnstown Clergy Association several of those years. From 1986 to January 26, 1996 was pastor of the Newville Church of the Brethren. He was a prinicpal organizer of the Newville Food Bank and the West Shore Church of the Brethren. He was a contributer to the book, "Turnaround and Beyond, A Hopeful Future for Small Membership Churches" by Ron Crandall. He was a member of the Southern PA District Board of the Church of the Brethren and was District Moderator Elect at the time of his death. He would have moderated the 1996 District Conference. He worked as part of the District's Discipleship and Reconcilliation Committee, he represented the District at meetings of the Ecumenical Forum in Harrisburg, PA and was moderator of the Huntsdale and Ridge congregations.
