Fleck or Flick Family, Unknown
This photo has been in my family since I can remember. It is not a photo under glass.. It is a photo ON glass, as when you pick up a slither of the broken glass and hold it up to light it looks sort of like an X-ray. The little box is wooden, approx. 1 1/2 inches by 2 inches and about 3/8 inches thick. The box looks to be covered with embossed leather. Inside opposite the photo, is red embossed velvet, and around/framing the photo glass itself, may be filagree gold. I don't know what type of photo this is and would be interested in any information anyone could supply me as to what period this type was made and what type it is.. Thank You, Betty

This Photo was in the posession of my Mother, her maiden name was FLECK/FLICK. The person in this photo itself is an unknown, but I would assume it is in the FLECK/FLICK line.
Date & Place: at FLECK/FLICK in Possibly BLAIR or HUNGTINGDON County, Pennsylvania United States

Hi Betty,
My family also has glass photos. They are in the exact type frame. Black embossed leather on the back, red velvet inside and the photo is surrounded in a decorative metal. The little black box has a tiny hook clasp for holding it closed. Just like yours.
Our pictures are of the Warren family. They lived in Maine. I know the pictures were taken in Maine and framed in Maine. I have looked on the internet to find how old they are but have found nothing. I believe they are older than tin-type photos. For sure they are 1890s or older. Let me know what you find out. Good luck and happy hunting.

I would think this is an ambrotype, which were printed on glass from the 1850's until the late 1880's.
