General James Green Martin circa 1865
James Green Martin was a General in the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. He was from North Carolina and attended West Point, graduating in 1840.
General Martin served in the Mexican War and was so badly wounded that he lost his arm, earning the nickname "Old One Wing. But he went on to resign his commission in the U.S. Army and become commander-in-chief of the Confederate State forces in 1861.
After the Civil War, General Martin became a lawyer and practiced law for the rest of his life.
