Jack Johnson 1910 Champion Heavyweight

Photo Details

Jack Johnson in 1910 looking through the steering wheel of his Thomas Flyer automobile, with another man seated next to him. This race car was a 90 horse power Thomas Flyer.

Jack Johnson was the Heavyweight Boxing Champion in 1910 and he wanted to race Barney Oldfield, who was the most famous race car driver of the era. The race did occur but I can't find who won - do you know?

Kathy Pinna Thank you John - your link was very informative! Turns out that Jack Johnson was a heck of a driver but no match for a professional driver since Barney Oldfield won 2 of three heats. Oldfield took chances on the curves that Johnson wasn't willing to (or able to) take!
