I want to thank Kristin Smith ([contact link]) for this picture. James Ellison Murray was born 16 Feb 1847 in Pomeroy, Meigs Co, Ohio, the son of James Charles McGrew Murray and Bellmira (Hall). He married Elizabeth Melissa Carl on 22 April 1877 in Meigs County, and they had six children, Lelia, George, Clara, Sarah Elizabeth, James Ellsworth, and John Ellison, who died in infancy or early childhood. The latter two were twins. James and Elizabeth moved frequently, at least in Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah, and Idaho, that I know of. After his wife died in 1918, James lived with his daughter Clara and her family for a time, but later moved to California with his son George. James died in the Old Soldiers Home in Sawtelle (now Westwood) near Los Angeles on 27 May 1925 and is buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery in West Los Angeles. George was born 2 March 1879 in Minnesota. He married Floy Dyke (born 1891) in Montrose Co, Colorado on 24 Sep 1908 and they had six children, one whose name is unknown, then Ellison, Lois Maxine, Katherine Rose, Elaine, and Leslie. George died between 1925 and 1928 in Merced Co, California.
