Lee de Forest, Silicon Valley Inventor
A Silicon Valley inventor before there was a Silicon Valley, Lee de Forest is one of the fathers of the electronic age.
De Forest invented the Audion, a vacuum tube that ushered in the widespread use of electronics. He was also given an Academy Award (in 1960) for "his pioneering inventions which brought sound to the motion picture" as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
His archives are stored in San Jose (the Heart of the Silicon Valley), waiting for space, perhaps in the San Jose Historical Park.
