Lillian K (Kapahua) Leite was born to Samuel Nakiowai Kapahu'a Sr. (1861 - 1914) and Harriett Ianakeau Kapahu'a (1869 - 1952). Both of her parents were born in Hawaii. She had 13 siblings: Mary, John, Charles, Olivia, Anna, Loka, Ahu, William, Lillian (1905), Harriet "Hattie", Sanuel, Mary, and Charlotte. She also had half sisters Keola, Nancy, and Huev.
