Lydia Daga (Hover) Smith
Lydia was my Paternal Grandmother through my adoption, she was also my biological Paternal Great -Grandmother. She lived the heartache of losing her first husband Arnold Leon Cowles he was 32 died in 1921 of Gastric fever { sever Hiccoughs} Find a grave link: . She became remarried on April 1, 1922, to Edward Smith In 1935 she experienced the loss of a child, her daughter Marguerite Cowles due to pneumonia. At the time of Marguerite death, she had a 3-year-old son Roger. Lydia took her grandson into her home and raised him as Roger bacon. Link: find a grave In 1972 Lydia lost another child her son Carl Cowles, due to Cancer. Carl was both my adoptive father and biological Great Uncle, Despite all this I remember her as having a positive attitude, she was a joyful person always glad to see me. She was quite friendly liked to get together with family and friends. She was quite crafty she crocheted. knitted, Quilted. I have some of her blankets she made a plan to post pictures of them later. She liked to garden. I remember, when my father Carl was still alive he myself and my mother Janice would go visit her and my Grandfather Ed to play cards. They all had such a good time and fun. I remember she would make coffee for me I'd put a lot of sugar and cream, then we always had sharp cheddar cheese with crackers. I remember them listening to a TV country music station. no matter how hard I tried, I never liked the music and singers with the sequins suites, but they liked it . At family holiday gathering Lydia liked her cream de mint. Lydia was quite sharp in her later years I remember my mother Janice and I took her to bingo when I was a newbie Lydia would point out called numbers on the bingo sheet I missed. Had a sharp eye. Will add more soon can go on and on
