"Maxwell 6, 1913...E.M.F."
The Maxwell-Briscoe Company of Tarrytown, NY was named for it's founders, Jonathan Maxwell and Briscoe Brothers Metalworks. Benjamin Briscoe was one of the presidents of the company.
After it's building burned down in Tarrytown, the company built one of the largest auto factories in the world at new Castle, Indiana. This later became a Chrysler plant and was functioning until 2004.
In 1913, the year this car was built, Maxwell-Briscoe was purchased by a Walter Flanders and renamed the company Maxwell Motor Company, Inc.
For years, Maxwell was considered one of the 3 top auto makers in America, along with Buick and Ford.
