Rita Winfrey This is so interesting! I am also from a "Poe" family. My father was Helmer Harrison Poe who was born June 9th, 1919, born and raised in Clay & Jackson County MO. My grandfather was Thomas Nathan Poe, and his father was Nathan Poe. Nathan Poe & his wife Sarah moved to Clay Co. MO from Mason County Kentucky. My dad Helmer Poe fought in WWII in the European Theatre, specifically France. I wish i knew if we were related to Myron "Miny" Poe!!
The photos are awesome!!

Rita Winfrey My dad's sister who also died in her 90's lived in Long Beach CA. Florence Poe who was married several times but only had one child, a son. Her sister Bessie Poe (married name Bessie Gross) lived there too but both have passed away. Their was another of their sisters, i think a half sister who moved to Ca from MO. Once she left Missouri no one ever heard from her again.

Tom Poe The photo above is of my Dad. In 1853, William Poe and his family traveled by wagon train from Missouri to near Portland, Oregon. In the 1850 census of Buchanan County, Missouri he is listed with his wife Nancy who he married in Missouri in 1833, his son, Robert who was born in 1834, his daughter Julia born in 1836 and his son James born in 1838. William was born in North Carolina in 1805. He appears to have come to Missouri in the late 1820s or early 1830s. His wife Nancy was the widow of John Mulkey who died in North Carolina in 1828. Her maiden name was Johnson. She had three children from her first marriage to John Mulkey - Wesley, William and Henry. These older children went to Oregon as early as 1843 and finally in 1853, the Poes also migrated there.
