This is one of a set of 3 postcards (which appear to be written in Italian?) that feature the same Husband, wife and daughter over a span of time in the early 1900's. The progression seems to be 1-Happy Family, 2-Husband gets called to war, 3-Wife on her own with baby daughter!
Can anyone translate the Italian for me? It might provide clues. Be sure to check out all 3 shots.

Chris Hain Thanks to the brilliant italian-detective work of Jacque Tessadri McDonnell she was able to translate this card and remove some of its "Mystery Status". The card starts: "Dear father here is a photgraph of my wife and my daughter Miriam . I think they had recieved a knife and table from a grandfather."
