"This [Los Angeles] might have been the Reid home except for the death of Uncle William Thane Reid from lung disease from Nevada mining. Uncle Bill went to the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890's and then went to Nevada where sliver was discovered. Uncle Bill went to Oceanside in 1908 to have his brother, Uncle Bob, a doctor, try to cure him, but he dies. He never married and was in his thirties.
