Photo taken on June 29, 1907 in Rankin, Mississippi. The family story tells that Annie and Richard slipped away to one of Richard's older brother's home to marry since she was only 14 years old. Annie was fearful that she would not receive permission from her step-father and mother. Note that Annie's step-father was also Richard's father, so in essence, brother and step-sister married. Annie's father had died a few years before and her then widowed mother married Richard's father, Robert Miles Gray. Kind of a strange story, but true.
