Titanic - Docks in Belfast 1912
This photo was taken of the RMS Titanic at the Docks in Belfast Ireland in 1912. The RMS Titanic was built by an Irish shipbuilding company called Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries which is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and still exists today.
Harland and Worff Heavy Industries was formed in 1861 by Edward James Harland and Gustav Wilhelm Wolff (who was born in Hamburg, Germany). Thomas Andrews, the managing director at Harland and Wolff, was the chief designer of the Titanic. He was on the Titanic on its maiden voyage (along with 8 other members of the "Titanic Guarantee Group" from Harland and Wolff). All of these men lost their lives when the Titanic went down.
