Photo Details

The only description for this photo is W.W. Virgin, 23rd Maine Infantry, Civil War. But it's such a vivid portrait of this man, it's compelling. It looks contemporary. The 23rd Maine Infantry was organized in Portland Maine and served in the Union Army in the Civil War for nine months. They were muster out of service in 1863.
