This is a photo of my Great Grandmother. Wilhelmina Katarina Jensen Amundsen came to the United States from Norway in 1885 with her husband Albert and raised a family. She and Albert came to this country for a better life. I love this photo.

I looked her up in the Norwegian digital archive, and found her marriage and the baptisme of a child. She was from Trondheim, the third largest city in Norway.

Her father's name was Karl Fredrik Jensen, and he was a 'glas maker'.

Albert's father was Ole Amundsen Lere, and he is written down as a 'worker'. While Albert was a tinsmith apprentice.
They got married just a month before their son Alfred Ferdinand was born.

And here is what I found on Ole Amundsen Lere:

It seems that Albert Amundsen was born out of wedlock, as Ole A Lere is said to have been unmarried at his death, and the mother is named 'pige' at the confirmation of Albert, 'pige' is used on unmarried, normally young women. Otherwise, Albert was from Aalesund, on the west coast of Norway, at that time a small fishing town, with small wooden houses. The whole town burned down in 1904, and was afterwards built up again in jugend style, with the help of the German Emperor William II. Ole A Lere originally came from Hjørundfjord, a beautiful narrow fjord not very far from Aalesund, where a big viking battle is said to have taken place in 986, according to Snorre.
