On October 22nd 1897,Glossop North End signed from South Shore FC a player named James Scarratt.(great grandfather) At the time he was living at 133 High Street West Glossop but by 1933 he was living at 24 Platt Street Padfield until he moved to 83 Platt St where he lived until his death,10th November 1933 after suffering an heart attack. He was born in Shropshire in 1868 and moved to Glossop in the 1890s.After retiring from football he took up a job as a bricklayer but he remained a scout for Glossop FC. My grandfather William,born here 17th November 1903 married my granny Hilda(Bower) 17th March 1939 at the Glossop Register Office,High Street West. My grandfather was 35 and my granny,a cotton weaver was 24. He died at 1.30am on the 12th of April exactly 70 yrs ago when his ship The Lancastrian Prince was hit by 2 German torpedoes just off the coast of Newfoundland

My great grandfather James Scarratt lived at number 24 Platt St Padfield Derbyshire until 1933 when he moved to 83 Platt St where he lived until his death aged 65 in 1933. He was born in Shropshire in 1868 and moved to Padfield in 1901 where his trade was a bricklayer.He was also a keen footballer and a scout for Glossop FC. My grandfather William was born 17th November 1903 at 24 Platt Street Padfield.Married my granny Hilda(Bower) 17th March 1939 at the Glossop Register Office,High Street West. My grandfather was 35 and my granny,a cotton weaver was 24 and originally from Sheffield. He died at 1.30am on the 12th of April exactly 70 yrs ago when his ship The Lancastrian Prince was hit by 2 German torpedoes just off the coast of Newfoundland.
