William V. King and his Civil War Horse

William V. King is pictured with a horse and saddle he rode in the Civil War which were given to him when he mustered out of the Civil War.

William V. King, son of Lydon and Nancy Hughes King, natives of N. C. married Laura Morrison, native of Henderson Count, N. C. In 1841 William enlisted in the 3rd Brigade of Col. Stephen's division of the Civil War. He was in the battle Jaczwell, Tenn., Bakers Creek, Chickamauga, Resaca, New Hope and the siege of Atlanta. While on detached duty in 1864 he was taken prisoner and held during the rest of the war at Fort Delaware. He is my GGrandfather. ... show more

I had family in NC around the time he would have been born but my line gets fuzzy back then. I'd love to compare notes.
