Wirt Aubrey Chesterman
Wirt Aubrey Chesterman (abt. 1853 – abt. 1918)
Wirt was the fourth son of Edwin Henry Chesterman (abt. 1817 – 1871) and Mary Catherine Jenkins (abt. 1825 – 1888.)
Wirt started his career as a carpenter and went on to become a building contractor in Richmond, Virginia. He was awarded many important building contracts in Virginia among which were Richmond's first Y. M. C. A. building and the construction of the wings to the Virginia State Capitol building originally designed by Thomas Jefferson. Wirt also constructed the rotunda and the east and west wings for the State Female Normal School (now Longwood University) in Farmville, Virginia.
In December 1884, Wirt married Miss Virginia Harmon of Staunton, Virginia. They had two children; a son , Aubrey C. (1875 – 1930) and a daughter, Virginia M. C. Chesterman.
Wirt's wife, Virginia died of tuberculosis in 1895. Wirt married Miss Elizabeth Caroline Crump in Richmond in 1901. Elizabeth and Wirt had two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret.
