Orville Caldwell McKay, age 20, of Alluwe, Oklahoma, was on the train enroute to boot camp when World War I was officially declared over November 11, 1918. Orville was anxious to join his brother, Loran Delbert McKay, who was 'over there' stationed in Germany. (Loran Delbert McKay received a Purple Heart for his bravery in World War I.)
