Here are some questions:
1. Was he a policeman? Looks like a whistle hanging from his vest.
2. Was he a fireman? Looks like a ladder on the sash and again, a whistle?
3. Is it certain the picture was taken in Ireland?
4. Where did he live at the time the pic was taken? Picture taken in America while visitiing, with him still living in Ireland?
5. Mexican-American war 1846-1848, approx.?
6. Is it possible that it's connected to a secret society? Asked because of the symbols on the sash.

i think it is an orange sash william moore is wearing they still wear them in ireland and it is part of the trouble here
