My Grandfather, Robert Luther "Bob" Ray, was born in unknown location (Probably Calloway County, Kentucky) on Dec. 12, 1876, died in Weakley County, Tenn. on Oct. 18, 1953. Buried in Olive Branch Methodist Church Cemetery, Cottage Grove, Tennessee. He is shown in the 1880 U.S. Census in Brinkley, Calloway County Kentucky as age 3. His father is shown as John F. Ray, mother Elizabeth J. (Arnold) Ray. His siblings are shown as William A., age 7; Mary L., age 5; and James R., age 1. The mother and all the children are born in Ky., John in Tenn.
My grandmother, Virginia Lou "Jennie" Suggs Ray was born in or near Sedalia, Graves County, Ky. on Nov. 3, 1876. She is listed in the 1880 Census, Lynnville, Graves County, Ky. at age 4. Her father is John H. Suggs, mother is Louisa A.(Ford). Siblings are Mary E., Mira J.(This would be Elmira Josephine "Josie"), and Flora M.. John is born in Tenn., all the others are born in Ky. Jennie died on Mar. 3, 1953 in Henry County, Tenn., near Cottage Grove. She is also buried at Olive Branch Cemetery.
They were the parents of John D. Ray, Lottie Imogene Ray, and my father, Alvis D. Ray. Robert was also the father of Otis Luther Ray by his first marriage to Reddie Manning.
