Description : Sir Peter Arthur Halkett was the 8th Baronet of Pitfirrane. His death ended 7 centuries of the Halkett of Pitfirrane male line.
Sir Peter served in the Crimean War (1853-1856). Commissioned Ensign in 1852 he joined the 71st Regiment in 1853 and made Lieutenant in 1954. Served as Captain in the 42nd Highlanders, 81st Regiment where in September 1854 he carried the Queen's Colors of the 42nd at the Battle of Alma and represented Lieutenant Colonel Sir Duncan Alexander Cameron who commanded the 42nd. In 1856 he exchanged as Captain to the 3rd Light Dragoons (Black Watch).
Retired to his family estate (Pitfirrane) and joined the Fife Militia in 1868, becoming Lieutenant Colonel in 1873.
His military honors include the Crimean Medal with three clasps, Sardinian and Turkish War Medals, Commander of the Royal Order of "Isabelle la Catolica" of Spain, as well as Late Captain and Light Dragoons, Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant Fife Artillery Militia, IP and DL fro County Fife.
