Date taken : 1930 Description : These are the Clifton siblings; l-r Julie, Addie, Maggie, Frank & Robert. Julie m. to a Spradlin and lived in Floyd Co., KY. Addie b.1880 m. Grant Burke and lived in Johnson Co., KY. Maggie moved with her husband to Miamesburg, OH. Frank & Robert moved to New York and were home on a visit when this photo was taken. Not sure which boy is which. One of them was known to later move to California. The Clifton genealogy is as follows: JOHN CLIFTON b.c1765 m. NANCY JONES ...and their son...MARTIN JONES CLIFTON b.1810 VA m. SUSANNAH BARRETT...and their son...JOHN MILTON CLIFTON b.1828 VA m. ADALINE A. Long Illness Takes Mother Of Seven
Addie Burke, 67, wife of Grant Burke of West Van Lear, died in a local hospital Thursday, July 3, following an illness of several months. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lena Birchfield, Alfax, Ky, Mrs. Tessie Fields, City, four sons, Robert and Walter of Odds, Richard, Van Lear, Estill and William of West, Van Lear. One son, Heber Ray, was killed in an automobile accident near Prestonsburg last October. Two brothers and two sisters also survive; John Clifton, San Diego, CAl. Robert Clifton, Buffalo, N. Y., Mrs. Julia Spradlin, Cliff, and Mrs. Margaret Ennis, Miamisburg, Ohio. She leaves twenty-three-grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian Church at West Van Lear, by Rev. S. C. Honeycutt. Burial was made in the West Van Lear Cemetery. Paintsville Herald Thursday 7-10-1947

There is a "typo" in the picture description.
John Clifton b.c1735 m. Nancy who MAY have been a Jones. It is only conjecture at this point that Jones was indeed her maiden name. Submitted by: kimrh Jan 21, 2005
