Description :
Minerva G. Smith McMillan. (My gr-gr-grandmother.) She was the daughter of John G. and Paulina Salmon Smith of Stokes Co. NC. She later married William McMillan. They left NC sometime between 1860 and 1870, and went to Missouri. They are shown in the 1870 Cooper Co. Missouri census (Kelly Twp) as follows: William--52; Minerva--39; Mary Ann McMillan Crews--21; Joseph E. Crews--22; Susan Victoria Crews--10 months; John W. P. McMillan--19; James S. McMillan--17; Frederick W.--15; Paulina S.--12; Robert G.--10; Henry C.--8; and Martha E. McMillan--6. The oldest daughter, Mary Ann and her husband Joseph Edward Crews (my gr-grandparents) lived in Missouri for a number of years, then returned to Stokes Co. NC with their family. Minerva and her family stayed in Missouri, and it is unknown at this time where they ended up. (Note: On Jan. 20, 2006, while looking thru the census records,I discovered Minerva still alive and living with a daughter and son-in-law, in Klickitat Co. Washington. She was 88 years old, and a widow. Her daughter was Polina/Paulina McMillan Walker, the wife of Robert W. Walker. These people all had come from NC, except for their children, who were born in Oregon. It was discovered that Minerva died in 1921 and is buried in Goldendale, (Klickatat Co.) Wa. If anyone has any information on this family, please contact me.)

Mystery :
Does anyone know whatever became of Minerva, her husband William, and their children, John, James, Frederick, Paulina, Robert, Henry, and Martha while in Missouri?? No information can be found from here, as they don't appear to be in any more census records after 1870. They didn't come back to NC as their older daughter's family did. (Note: In Jan. of 2006, while looking thru the census records, I have discovered Minerva living with a son-in-law, Robert W. Walker, and her daughter, Polina/Paulina McMillan Walker, in the 1920 census. They were living in Klickitat Co, Washington. If anyone has any information on these people, please contact me.)
