Elizabeth was the daughter of Frederick Uhler and Elizabeth Yeager of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Fred's father, John Martin Uhler, fought in the American Revolutionary War. Elizabeth was born 1829 and died 1 February 1907. After her sister Catharine's death in 1865 Elizabeth married her brother-in-law, George Bergner, a German immigrant who learned the printing trade and eventually became the owner of the Harrisburg Telegraph and several other publications. With her marriage she took over the household of George's three children, and they later had a daughter of their own, Catherine.
