Date taken : 1962 Description : This is a photo of my great-uncle Chief Justice Leslie Emmett Given. Uncle Emmett as he was called, served in the U.S. Army during World War I; lawyer; common pleas court judge in West Virginia, 1941-42; U.S. District Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia, 1943-50; Justice of West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, 1950-1962; appointed 1950. He was the son of Amos and Lucy Melton Given and was married to the late Bessie Via Given. Judge Given and his wife had two children who died shortly after birth. He died on the bench while serving on the Supreme Court.
