Corporal James P. Brennan

Date taken : 1919 Description : Corporal James P. Brennan (1886 - 8 May 1968) pictured circa 1919. James was born in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, Ireland. He emigrated to the US in 1911 and became a naturalised citizen during his military service. He was a member of Battery E, 29th Company, 55th Regiment of the Coastal Artillery Corps based at Fort Standish, Boston, MA. He was demobilised at Camp Upton, NY on 4 April 1919. He returned to Ireland in 1920, married his wife, Mary Kate Cooke in 1921 and settled down to run a farm gifted to him by his uncle. He died on the morning of what was to be his wife's funeral. Her funeral was postponed to allow a joint funeral at a later date. They are both interred in Rhue Cemetery, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo.
