Description :
Ethel Byron Chesterman was the daughter of Mary Ann Washington Bolton (1855 - 1924) and Roscoe Dabney Chesterman (1849 - 1901). In June of 1902 Ethel married Asa Johnson whom she knew as a neighbor on Richmond's West Clay Street and also a member of the local Methodist Church. In this photo, Ethel is in mourning for her father and wears his image in a small brooch on her collar. Ethel and Asa had four sons: Roscoe Chesterman Johnson, Asa Byron Johnson, Joseph Sherwin Johnson and Frank David Johnson.
