My Grandpa Francis told us stories of making and running moonshine. He enjoyed telling about life when he was young. He also told us of one of our Grandfathers, who was the sheriff of Mobile Co. I would daydream as the stories were told. I could just imagine grandfather and grandson flying down dirt roads in late model cars, with dust rolling in clouds. Or maybe one chasing the other on horse back. Ducking branches and jumping fences.
Firing a warning shot over head, careful not to even come close. Because this was family. The one eventually giving up because you can't out run the long arm of the law. And even if you did he would tell your Daddy and Moma and they would whip you for running. And not only that, they would make your Pawpaw whip you too. Then they would all go inside and have Sunday dinner. We didn't have television when I was small. But we always had stories told and received with great imagination!
