My grandfather Everett Mays Sr came to Pine Creek (logan co ), WV to work in the coal mines.He brought his chidren and wife Elizabeth Lewis Mays from Rowan Co,Ky. His parents was the late Henry and Martha Ann Fraley Mays of Rowan co,Ky. Henry's parents were Green and Susan Gilliam Mays. Martha's parents were Thomas and Fannie Cox Fraley. Henry and Martha are buried in the Fraley cementary in Kentucky. Green Mays was buried in bigston,Ky on the family farm.I can trace are family back to England 1584 with a Rev.William Mease that died October 1636 in london,England.I think it's so interesting how the spelling of are last name has changed down the generations. I have found five ways they spell it.In England 1584 William spelled it Mease than his son came to Virginia and spelled it Maise and then down the line it's spelled Mayes,Mayse, and then my family spells it Mays. It's seems to me my family traveled from England,Virginia,North Carolina,Kentucky, and then my grandfather came to the coaling mining state of West Virginia. I did find out my great-great-great-great-great grandfather David Mays was killed in South Carolina in 1780 at Kings mont.in the rev.war battle. I thought that was interesting but I'm not sure if that's true or not some say it is some say not .But when I started doing my family tree I had only my grandparents names and my grandfather's parents names.
