Joe Lee Hobbs was born in Young Co., Texas in 1935 he was in an out of prison most of his short life. In the early to middle 1970's, Joe Lee's last time out of prison, Joe Lee went on a bank robbing spree and was dubbed the Silk Stocking Bandit, due to the fact that he always wore a silk stocking over his head during the robberies. Joe Lee's crime spree ended in a stand-off at his home. Joe Lee decided to take his own life rather than go back to prison and shot himself in the head.
